About Me

Thank you reading my blog.

I have written these posts trying to keep 4 things in mind:

  • Say something that you can use either professionally or personally that isn’t like the millions of other blogs that exist.
  • Say it in 1500 words or less, I appreciate how busy everyone is and if you will give me 5 minutes, hopefully I can share something that you will appreciate. Although fair warning, some of them are a little longer.
  • Be interesting, these ideas and concepts work, and are designed for owners, managers and supervisors, and increasingly for the people or associates that work in small or medium sized organizations.
  • In my career, I have be fortunate to have many mentors who provided help at pivotable points in my career. I have added a section for “Tips for Students” that I hope helps people on some of the topics I was helped.

In my career I have been fortunate to have worked and learned from some of the very best people in a variety of fields, the lessons and tips contained here are the things that they have shown me.

To a person, they have all believed in “Incremental Improvement” and I have tried to extend that concept and broken the tips into “5 minute” reads. I will try to publish new articles every other week if I can.

Although for most of my career, I was the leader of one of the top home furnishings franchises stores in Canada, I have also been a Project Manager, been a Food Security Advocate, and now a Career Advisor.

Many of my posts share my experiences and lessons on: transferrable skills; sales; marketing and advertising; operations, including warehouse and delivery; customer service; human resources; and associate development.

My posts also cover issues that affect organizations and the people who are part of them from food insecurity to mental health to addiction issues to human trafficking and to how you and I can make a difference..

Working in the “not-for-profit” sector has opened my eyes to the challenges, differences, and similarities of this world compared to the “for-profit” world. Running a “for-profit” business does not mean that it cannot be socially responsible and things like “living wage, guaranteed income, safe injection sites, needle exchanges” are topics that business people should be discussing.

I hope you find the information as helpful as I have. Please feel free to comment on what you like, don’t like, or something that you would like to see.

Paul.
